The Diary is very pleased to announce that Dr. William Nevin has joined the Advisory Board of Lifetime Health
Dr. William Nevin – Dr. Nevin is a highly experienced physician and medical administrator, with a proven track record of innovation to provide the highest quality care possible whilst eliminating costly complications. Dr. Nevin believes achieving this depends on treating the patient, provider and the payor as equal partners in a coordinated medical system. In Chicago, Illinois, he graduated from Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1965, completed an internship at Cook County Hospital, and undertook his residency in internal medicine at the Veteran’s Administration Research Hospital. Dr. Nevin then practiced primary care and internal medicine for the U.S. Air Force, which made him aware of the special burden of the primary care physician to effectively communicate simultaneously with multiple specialists as well as the patients and their families.
With two partners Dr. Nevin started the first Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in Tucson, Arizona, growing it to over 55,000 members and more than 70 physicians. He developed the HMO’s medical and administrative systems, and documented that improvements in quality were only possible when all parts of the medical system worked together for the benefit of the patient. Upon merging the HMO with a large tertiary hospital, Dr. Nevin served as Medical Director for the system while continuing to practice pulmonology and critical care medicine.
Dr. Nevin completed his fellowship in pulmonology and critical care medicine at the University of Arizona, and has also served as a Medical Director at a community safety net hospital in Pima County, Arizona. He is currently a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and The American College of Chest Physicians.
